ATLANTA, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 shutout loss to the Georgia State Panthers on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.
With the loss, the Chants dropped to 3-6-1, 0-2-1 Sun Belt, and the Panthers advanced to 6-1-3, 2-0-0 Sun Belt.
The Panthers dominated the first half, outshooting the Chants 8-1 while forcing Coastal keeper
Vivienne Carr to make two saves.
Julia Ziegenfuss took CCU's lone shot in the 44th minute but it was not enough to threaten the GSU keeper and the score held at 0-0.
GSU led 6-0 in corner kicks in the first frame and out fouled the Chants 5-4.
The Panthers took the lead in the 57th minute when Aaliyah Faddoul buried the ball into the back of the net off an assist from Jimena Cabrero and Elena Diaz to make the score 1-0.
The Chants looked for an opening in the 62nd minute when
Sarah Soraghan took aim on goal but it caused no threat to the GSU defense and the score remained at 1-0.
GSU extended its lead in the 65th minute when Bree Barley belted the ball into the top left corner off an assist from Faddoul to make the score 2-0.
The goals kept coming for the Panthers when Faddoul bagged her second goal of the match in the 71st minute to push the GSU ahead at 3-0.
The Chants looked to rally back when
Katie Riccardi and
Emily Petring each took shots in the 73rd and 74th minute, respectively, but the GSU defense took care of the danger to maintain its 3-0 lead.
GSU took five more shots in the remainder of the match while denying the Chants another shooting opportunity to close out the match 3-0.
The Chanticleers will return to the CCU Soccer Stadium on Oct. 1 to take on Arkansas State at 1 p.m. ET.
