Coastal had a promising chance in the 40th minute when Rami Rapp slotted the ball through the Golden Eagles' backline to put Julia Ziegenfuss head-to-head with the keeper, but the junior pulled the shot just wide to hold the score at 1-1.
With four minutes left in the first frame, Southern Miss gained the lead when Adaira Nakano smashed the ball into the back of the net. However, the goal was overturned on a handball decision to keep the score level at 1-1.
Southern Miss pressed the Chants' defense in the second half leading 8-2 in shots and 6-0 in corner kicks, but the Golden Eagles couldn't break through to take the lead.
Madison Micheletti took the lone shot-on-goal of the half in the 87th minute to try and secure the win for the Chants, but it was met by the hands of the Southern Miss keeper to conclude the match at 1-1.
