NORFOLK, Va. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team (12-7, 6-3 SBC) dropped a 6-1 decision to the Old Dominion Monarchs (12-5, 8-0 SBC) in the first of two-road conference matches this weekend at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va.
JMU won the doubles point after taking two of three from the Chants to start the match, taking an early 1-0 advantage into singles play. Senior pairing Kata Foldeak and Cecile Morin came away with the lone win for the Chants in the opening frame, defeating ODU's Ulyana Romanova and Alexanda Viktorovich 6-3, their ninth win of the year.
In singles, the Monarchs sealed their eighth conference win of the season by winning five of the six matchups, with four coming in straight sets. Junior Nicole Abel secured the first point of the day for the Chants after taking down the No. 1 seed Sofia Johnson, who was undefeated in Sun Belt Conference play and the 125th ranked player in Division I entering today's match, in a straight set, 7-5, 6-4 victory, her ninth of the season. Foldeak forced ODU's No. 4 seed Lidiia Rasskouskaia into a third set, but later fell in a 10-3 tiebreaker.
CCU will take on James Madison tomorrow at 10 A.M. ET at Hillside Courts in Harrisonburg, Va. in the penultimate match of the 2024 season.
