The Chanticleers to Close Out the Home Portion of Schedule with No. 4 Clemson

Coastal has turned 51 double plays on the season

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina will meet in-state foe the nationally-ranked No. 4 Clemson for a midweek matchup in Conway, S.C. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 14, at Springs Brooks Stadium.

ABOUT THE CHANTS
• Coastal Carolina enters the week 30-21 overall having won its final conference home series of the 2024 season 2-1 over the Georgia State Panthers.
• The Chants defense has turned 51 double plays on the year, the fifth most in the NCAA.
• The Chanticleers offense ranks 10th in the NCAA with 466 runs and is 13th in scoring with 9.1 runs per game.
• Coastal scored 42 runs in the weekend series with Georgia State. CCU tallied 17 runs in the series opener, that was suspended due to inclement weather, and followed up with nine and 17 runs in the doubleheader on Sunday.
• Coastal has hit 77 home runs on the year as a team. Blake Barthol leads the team with 15 home runs with Zack Beach second the team with 14 deep balls.
Sam Antonacci has reached base via hit or walk in 50 of 51 games this season and has a .543 on-base percentage and leads the team with a .383 batting average.
• Antonacci had reached base safely at least once in the first 43 games of the season before being kept off the base path in the series finale versus Troy.
Graham Brown is second on the team in hitting with a .370 batting average and 16 doubles. He leads the team with 58 RBIs.
• Freshmen pitcher Cameron Flukey leads the team with 69 strikeouts over 43.2 innings.
Josh O'Neill has started seven midweek games for the Chanticleers. He is 1-1 in 12 appearances and has pitched 26.2 innings, allowing 24 runs on 26 hits with 22 strikeouts and just 24 walks.
 
ABOUT THE TIGERS
• The Tigers enter play with a 37-13 overall and currently on a three-game skid having getting swept by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Atlantic Coast Conference action.
• Clemson is currently ranked No. 4 by D1baseball.com and was picked to finish second in the ACC.
• The Tiger pitching staff has allowed 68 home runs and has struck out 469 opposing batters and issued 260 free bases. Batters are hitting just .240 against Clemson.
• The Tiger's Lucas Mahlstedt anchors the pitching rotation with a 4-1 record on a team-high 22 appearances. Mahlstedt has thrown 33.1 innings, allowing 25 runs on 48 hits with 32 strikeouts.
• Austin Gordon leads Clemson with eight saves on the mound. Gordon has thrown 29.0 innings, allowing 20 runs on 31 hits with 38 strikeouts.
• The Tigers are hitting .293 and have belted 92 home runs, nine triples, and 82 doubles for 375 RBIs.
• Alden Mathes (.328), Blake Wright (.327), Cam Cannarella (.325), and Jacob Hinderleider (.319) are the only Clemson hitters hitting over .300. Mathes has hit eight home runs, one triple, and 11 doubles for 27 RBI. Wright has belted 19 home runs, two triples, and eight doubles for 66 RBI. Cannarella has hit eight long balls, two triples, and 15 doubles for 46 RBI, while Hinderleider has 12 blasts, a triple, and 14 doubles for 53 RBI.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY WITH CLEMSON
• The Chanticleers trail the overall series 12-49 on the diamond, with the Tigers winning both games 13-6 and 16-6 last season
• The longest winning streak by CCU was two games from the 2022 season.
• The Chants and Clemson first met in Conway, S.C., in February 1986 in a game that the Tigers won 12-5.
• Clemson won 20 straight contests from March 1990 to March 1999.
