Women's Soccer Plays East Carolina to a Draw

Parkes led the Chants with three shots

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women's soccer team went on the road and played East Carolina to a 0-0 score Thursday night in Greenville, N.C., at Johnson Stadium.

The home-standing Pirates finished the match with a 10-6 advantage in shots with a 3-1 shots on goal advantage.

Chanticleer goalie Vivienne Carr picked up the shutout for the Chants with three saves, including a save with just 70 seconds left in the match.

Tamlyn Parkes led CCU with three shots with one of those shots going off the cross bar in the 46th minute. Eleanor Ashton had a chance to score with 12 minutes left in the match, but ECU goalie Maeve English recorded her only save to preserve the tie score.

The Chanticleers are 0-2-2 on the season while the Pirates move to 2-0-2.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the first half as each team had four shots and three corner kicks apiece. The Pirates had the lone shot on goal with Carr picking up the only save of the first half.

The Chants had two chances in the opening 10 minutes as Parkes was able to break down the left side of the pitch with each of her shots going just wide of its mark. The first shot was just left of the on-side post and her second shot went wide right.

"I am incredibly proud of every single one of the group today. The quick turnaround after two difficult games last week was challenging but the girls saw it as an opportunity to respond and that's exactly what we were able to do today," stated head coach Jo Chubb.

"I thought we were unfortunate not to get more from the game, our work rate and discipline on both sides of the ball was fantastic. Again, we created some real opportunities and when they begin to fall the results will undoubtedly follow," Chubb continued.  "I want to commend the entire group today, whether everyone played minutes or not, the competition within the group throughout the week is so high that it prepares us so well for game day. It gives my staff and I some really positive headaches and that's the exact environment we are striving for. Now we rest and recover tonight, before turning our focus to face another very good AAC team at the weekend. We hope to see everyone out there at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Chants up!"

CCU will be back on the pitch Sunday, Sept. 1, when they host UAB at 1 p.m. ET. The match is the first of a homestand that will have the Chants playing four of its next five games at the CCU Soccer Complex.
