SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team finished eighth at the Cardinal Cup, moving up one spot on the final day of competition. CCU finished the event at 47-over 911 (307-305-299) at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
Varatkarn Kunkaew was the Chants' top performer, finishing tied for ninth after carding a four-over 220 (73-74-73). Kunkaew finished the tourney tied for eighth in par four scoring (4.07) and tied for seventh in total pars with 37.
Sara Sarrion had the Chants' top round of the day with an even-par 72 (38-34). Sarrion finished tied for 16th with a seven-over 223 (79-72-72). Sarrion had a 3.08 scoring average on the par three holes, which was tied for eighth and her 12 total birdies was tied for second.
Freshman
Ella Murray tied for 53rd in her first tournament as a Chanticleer, finishing with an 18-over 234 (75-78-81).
Carolina Hortian finished tied for 64th with a 21-over 237 (80-81-76), while
Aoife Devaney, also playing in her first event, finished tied for 70th at 23-over 239 (80-81-78)
Middle Tennessee moved up two spots to take home the championship, finishing 16-over 880 (294-297-389). Western Kentucky finished second just three strokes back at 19-over 883 (297-291-295). East Carolina was third at 20-over 884 (302-294-288), while host Louisville (297-299-289) and Rutgers (291-297-297) finished tied for fourth at 21-over 885.
Mercer finished sixth with a 25-over 889 (301-299-289) with James Madison finishing seventh with a 35-over 899 (298-304-297). Following the Chants were Cincinnati (+49, 913), and Eastern Kentucky (+58, 922).
The rest of the field included Lipscomb (+60, 924), Marshall (+61, 925), Evansville (+78, 942), Toledo (+85, 949), and Bellarmine (+94, 958).
The Chants will be back in action Sept. 23-24 at the Tot Hill Farm Invitational, at the Tot Hill Farm in Asheboro, N.C.
