CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina outlasted App State in five sets, 3–2 (25–27, 25–11, 25–18, 22–25, 15–11), on Saturday afternoon inside The HTC Center to complete its two-match sweep of the Mountaineers and take sole possession of second place in the Sun Belt East Division.
The Chanticleers improved to 16–6 overall and 8–2 in conference play, while App State suffered its fourth consecutive defeat to fall to 13–8 overall and 4–6 in the Sun Belt.
Junior
Jalyn Stout led the Chanticleers with a double-double of 18 kills and 22 assists while hitting .567 and adding two service aces.
Emily Fowler added 13 kills, seven blocks and two aces, while
Anna Rita posted 10 kills and four blocks.
Ava Wallis distributed a career-high 30 assists, and
Bailee Earnhardt contributed 10 digs and two aces to round out a balanced Coastal effort.
The Mountaineers were paced by Bella Hutchens, who notched 24 kills, six aces and four digs. Ali Morris chipped in 15 kills and five digs, while Addison Heidemann handed out 47 assists.
Coastal hit .326 as a team while holding App State to a .207 mark. The Chants also held a 10–8 edge in aces and out-blocked the Mountaineers 11–5.
QUICK SET RECAP
Set One: The opening frame was tightly contested and featured four ties but just one lead change, as App State never surrendered its advantage after taking a 2–1 lead. Coastal erased a late 24–19 deficit behind blocks from Fowler and
Kibi Huggins to tie the set at 24-all, but the Mountaineers held on for the 27–25 win after kills from Hutchens and Morris.
Set Two: Coastal responded emphatically, dominating the second set with a .450 hitting percentage while limiting App State to .045. Stout fueled an 8–0 run midway through the frame with two aces and four assists, and the Chants closed out the set 25–11 on a block by Fowler.
Set Three: The Chanticleers continued to roll, building a 6–0 lead behind
Anzley Rinard's strong serving and never trailing. The Chants tallied 13 kills, three blocks and two service aces, while Wallis distributed seven assists as Coastal hit .294 en route to a 25–18 win.
Set Four: The Mountaineers regrouped with a strong fourth set led by Hutchens, who tallied seven kills and three aces. App State built an early five-point lead, and although Coastal rallied late to close within 23–21, the Mountaineers forced a deciding fifth set with a 25–22 victory.
Set Five: In the decisive frame, Stout took command with five kills as Coastal jumped ahead 10–6. Stout sealed the match with a kill off a Wallis assist, giving the Chanticleers the 3–2 win.
NOTES
• Coastal improved to 22-7 against the Mountaineers and 18-4 in Sun Belt play. The Chanticleers have won 15 of their last 17 matches against App State.
• The Chanticleers recorded a season-high 60 kills.
• CCU improved to 2-1 in five-set matches this season and 3-4 when losing the first set.
• Coastal improved to 10-0 this season when recording 10 or more blocks.
• Stout recorded her 18th double-double of the season.
• Wall's 30 assists were the most by a Chanticleer since Stout had 33 against South Alabama last season (11/16/24).
• Fowler matched her career-high for blocks with seven. She also had seven in a pair of games last year.
• Rita recorded double-digit kills for the fifth time this season and the first in eight matches. She last registered double-figure kills with 11 at Marshall on Sept. 27, 2025.
• Huggins posted season-highs for kills (7) and blocks (6).
