CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina closed its regular-season home schedule with a gritty five-set victory Saturday afternoon, defeating South Alabama (25-19, 26–28, 13–25, 25–11, 15–9) at the HTC Center. The win capped the Chanticleers' regular season schedule and moved them to 18–10 overall and 10–6 in Sun Belt play.
Coastal controlled the opening set, lost a tight second and then weathered a tough third-set loss before surging back with a dominant finish. The Chanticleers hit .469 in the fourth set and overcame a two-point deficit in the deciding frame.
Anzley Rinard led a balanced offensive effort with16 kills and 16.5 points.
Emily Fowler added 16.0 points with 11 kills and four blocks, while
Emma Van Elslande delivered one of her most efficient performances of the season, hitting .387 with 15 kills.
Setter
Jalyn Stout turned in a standout all-around performance with 12 kills, 22 assists, 14 digs and two blocks, while fellow setter
Ava Wallis added 27 assists and eight digs. Libero
Bailee Earnhardt paced the back row with 14 digs as Coastal finished with 61 digs and 12 blocks.
Middle blocker
Anna Rita anchored the defense at the net, finishing with eight blocks and seven kills.
South Alabama was led by Cambria Gaier's match-high 26 kills and 14 digs.
Coastal controlled the fourth set from the opening serve, using a 10–3 run to seize momentum. In the fifth, Fowler, Rinard and Van Elslande powered an early surge that the Jaguars could not match.
The Chanticleers turn their attention to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which begins in Foley, Ala., on Thursday, Nov. 20. Coastal Carolina will face Texas State in the quarterfinal round on Friday, Nov. 21. First serve is slated for 12 p.m. ET at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex.
