SAN MARCOS, Texas – Despite a strong start and several competitive stretches early on, Coastal Carolina dropped a 3-0 decision (25-20, 25-16, 25-9) to Texas State on Friday night at Strahan Arena.
The Chanticleers (16-9, 8-5 Sun Belt) battled point-for-point through much of the opening set, pulling within 19-18 before the Bobcats closed on a late run to take control. Coastal showed flashes of momentum behind a balanced effort from
Jalyn Stout,
Emma Van Elslande, and
Anna Rita, who combined for 13 of the team's 22 kills.
Stout notched 10 assists and six digs to go with four kills, while Van Elslande led the team with five kills, adding a service ace. Rita and
Emily Fowler chipped in four and three kills, respectively, as Fowler also tallied a solo block.
Bailee Earnhardt anchored the back row with nine digs, and
Ava Wallis added eight assists and five digs.
Texas State (13-11, 8-5 Sun Belt) hit .292 for the match, led by Samantha Wunsch with 10 kills, nine digs, and three aces. Maggie Walsh added seven kills, and Bailey Hanner posted six kills on .600 hitting with six blocks.
The Chanticleers look to rebound quickly as they face off against the Bobcats again on Saturday at 1 p.m.
