CONWAY, S.C. —
AJ Dancler scored 19 points and delivered the game's decisive baskets in the final minute as Coastal Carolina pulled out a 67–60 win over Alabama A&M on Sunday at the HTC Center.
The Chanticleers (5–3) saw a late lead slip away when Koron Davis buried a three-pointer with 2:17 remaining to tie the game at 59.
Tristan Thompson pushed CCU back in front with a layup at the 1:45 mark, Dancler took over. The sophomore guard knocked down a pull-up jumper in the lane with 1:09 to give the Chanticleers a 63–60 lead, then added a driving layup with 22 seconds left before sinking two free throws with 14 seconds to play to secure the win.
Coastal made 28 of 34 free throws on a night when field goals were scarce, finishing 17 of 50 from the floor. Dancler went 10 of 12 at the stripe and added nine rebounds.
Rasheed Jones and
Joshua Beadle added nine points apiece, and
Reggie Hill scored eight.
Kintavious Dozier led Alabama A&M (3-3) with 18 points, while Davis finished with 14. The Bulldogs shot 20 of 58 and were held without a field goal over the final 2:17.
Coastal led 36–31 at halftime after a 10–2 run capped by a Dancler-assisted dunk from Beadle with 2:02 left in the half. Dancler and Jones hit bookend 3s to push the lead to 12, 45-33, less than four into the second half.
The Chanticleers begin a six-game road swing Wednesday at USC Upstate. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
POSTGAME NOTES
• With the win, Coastal is off to its best eight-game start since beginning the 2021–22 season 5–3 as well.

AJ Dancler scored in double figures for the fifth time in eight games, scoring 16 or more in four of those five. He missed his second double-double of the season by one rebound and led the Chants on the glass for the second time in three games.
• Coastal Carolina posted its lowest field-goal percentage in a win (.340) since shooting 31.7 percent (20 of 63) at Old Dominion on Jan. 12, 2023.
• Coastal's 17 made field goals were its fewest in a win since also making 17 in a 65–60 victory at Little Rock on Feb. 2, 2018.
• The Chanticleers made a season-best 28 free throws while also going to the line a season-high 34 times. Coastal sank its first 15 free throws of the game, all in the first half.
• The Chants' 28 free throws were their most in a game since making an HTC Center–record 29 against Columbia International on Nov. 18, 2014.
