CLEMSON, S.C. — No. 21 Coastal Carolina erupted for six runs in the third inning and held No. 3 Clemson in check the rest of the way to earn an 8-2 upset win Tuesday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Sebastian Alexander and
Blagen Pado each launched three-run home runs in the decisive third frame, powering the Chanticleers (18-7) to their first victory at Clemson since 2022, snapping a four-game skid in the series.
Alexander got the scoring started with a no-doubt shot to left after
Dean Mihos walked and
Caden Bodine singled. Four batters later, Pado cleared the wall with two on, chasing Clemson starter Noah Samol (0-1) and putting the Chants up 6-0.
Luke Jones gave the Chants four scoreless innings in the start, and Coastal's bullpen combined to allow just two runs over the final five frames.
Oliver Ellison (1-1) earned the win in relief.
Clemson (23-4) managed just five hits. Andrew Ciufo's solo homer in the fifth and a Cam Cannarella-led run in the eighth accounted for the Tigers' only scoring.
Mihos added an RBI double in the eighth for Coastal, which finished with just five hits but made them count. The Chanticleers took advantage of five walks, five hit batters, and two passed balls by Clemson.
The teams will meet again May 6 in Conway to conclude the season series.
