CONWAY, S.C. – No. 19 Coastal Carolina clinched its sixth-straight Sun Belt Conference series with a 6-2 win over App State on Saturday afternoon at Springs Brooks Stadium.
The Chanticleers (36-11, 19-4 SBC) extended their conference win streak to 11 games and improved to 19-3 at home behind a strong performance from right-hander
Cameron Flukey, who struck out nine over seven innings. Flukey (5-1) allowed five hits and two runs.
App State (21-25, 11-12 SBC) struck first with a run in the third, but Coastal answered with four in the bottom of the fourth.
Domenico Tozzi tied the game with an infield RBI single, and the Chants kept the line moving with RBI hits from
Colby Thorndyke and
Wells Sykes, followed by a bases-loaded walk drawn by
Walker Mitchell.
Coastal tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth, with
Sebastian Alexander and
Blagen Pado each scoring. Alexander finished 2-for-4 with a double, a single, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Pado doubled and scored twice.
In relief,
Ryan Lynch recorded his third save of the season, retiring all five batters he faced while striking out two.
Scott Doran also made an appearance out of the bullpen.
The series finale is set for
Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at Springs Brooks Stadium.
