Wednesday, June 18, 2025

Coastal Carolina 11, Louisville 3 – Time of Game 3:30
Attendance 23,660 – 2025 MCWS Attendance Total: 266,441 – Average Attendance: 24,222

Coastal Carolina (56-11, 3-0 MCWS):

• Coastal Carolina is 3-0 at the MCWS for the first time in program history and will play for the MCWS title for the second time, having claimed a national title in its first MCWS appearance in 2016.
• Coastal Carolina moved to 46-44 all-time in 21 NCAA Tournament appearances, including an 8-0 mark under head coach Kevin Schnall
• Coastal Carolina moved to 9-2 all-time in the MCWS, having made its second appearance in the MCWS and first trip to Omaha since claiming the national championship in 2016. The Chanticleers are now 9-4 all-time inside Charles Schwab Field Omaha including two non-conference regular-season games at Creighton in 2024.
• Coastal Carolina entered today as the sixth school to win eight of its first 10 games at the MCWS, and first since California in 1980 (others include Minnesota, Holy Cross, Michigan and Texas).
• Coastal Carolina won the national title in its first trip to Omaha in 2016 and is seeking to become the fifth school to win the title in each of its first two trips to the MCWS, but the first in more than six decades. Texas (1949 & 1950), California (1947 & 1957), Minnesota (1956 & 1960) and Michigan (1953 & 1962) all won national championships in their first two MCWS appearances.
• Coastal Carolina is just the second Sun Belt school to make the MCWS, joining Louisiana in 2000 (the Ragin' Cajuns went 2-2). The Chanticleers were members of the Big South Conference when they won the title in 2016; they joined the Sun Belt less than 12 hours after hoisting the trophy.
• Coastal Carolina is the only remaining team unbeaten in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Since the best-of-three MCWS Finals were added in 2003, only three national champions have gone 10-0 in the postseason (UCLA in 2013, Arizona in 2012 and South Carolina in 2011).
• Coastal Carolina picked up its nation-leading 56th win of the season, improving to 56-11. The Chanticleers 56 wins are its most wins in a single season ever, surpassing its 2010 total of 55 games won on the way to a National Championship in 2016.
• With today's win, Coastal Carolina extended its nation-leading win streak out to 26 consecutive games, the third-longest streak in Division I over the past five seasons. The Chanticleers 23-game winning streak entering the MCWS was the longest winning streak entering the event in Division I history.
• Coastal Carolina leads all teams at the 2025 MCWS with 24 runs scored and is second with a 3.00 ERA.
• Coastal Carolina and Louisville met for the eighth time in program history on Wednesday, with the Chanticleers moving to 7-1 in the all-time series. The last meeting between the two teams prior to today was in the NCAA Tournament with Coastal Carolina claiming a 9-1 win in an elimination game at the 2002 Atlanta Regional.
• Head coach Kevin Schnall is the seventh head coach to lead his first team at a school to Omaha since the NCAA Tournament expanded in 1999 and the first since Jim Schlossnagle guided Texas A&M to the MCWS in 2022.
Kevin Schnall is believed to be the fourth head coach to lead his team to the MCWS in his first year as a college head coach, joining Louisville's Dan McDonnell (2007), Florida State's Mike Martin (1980) and Texas' Cliff Gustafson (1968), and Friday's victory over Louisville made him the only one of those four to win his Omaha debut. That would make Schnall the only first-year head coach to ever win his first eight NCAA Tournament games.
Kevin Schnall is the sixth head coach to reach the MCWS Finals in his first season with a school and the first since Jay Johnson brought Arizona to Omaha in 2016. None of the previous five coaches won the national championship.
Kevin Schnall's 56 wins are the most in Division I history by a rookie head coach. Only CSUN's Mike Batesole (52 wins in 1996) and Florida State's Mike Martin (51 wins in 1980) also won 50 or more.
• Coastal Carolina was not ranked in the preseason polls by D1Baseball, Baseball America, NCBWA or USA Today and were 23rd by Perfect Game.
• Coastal Carolina has outscored teams 64-24 in eight games during the NCAA Tournament.
• Coastal Carolina scored 11 runs on 11 hits on Wednesday, marking the first time the Chanticleers have scored at least 10 runs in a MCWS game.
• Coastal Carolina is now 17-0 when scoring 10 or more runs in the NCAA Tournament all-time.
• The Chanticleers are now 22-0 when scoring 10 or more runs this season and have now won 35 consecutive games when scoring 10 or more runs, dating back to a 17-17 tie with ULM on March 20 of last year.
• Coastal Carolina leads the country with a program record 176 hit-by-pitches this season, including four on Wednesday. The Chanticleers 176 hit-by-pitches are the most in a single season in NCAA history, surpassing UC Irvine's 175 hit-by-pitches in 2024.
• Coastal Carolina moved to 37-2 when scoring first, including wins in each of their last 29 games when scoring first. The Chanticleers' 37-2 (.949) record is the best record in the NCAA this season.
• Coastal Carolina had scored one first-inning run in its first six NCAA Tournament games before scoring three runs Sunday and six more today.
• The Chanticleers six runs in the first inning were its most in the first inning all year. This was just the second time that Coastal Carolina has scored six runs in an inning in this year's NCAA Tournament (7th inning vs. East Carolina in Regionals. The Chants are the fifth team with multiple 6-run in this year's tournament.
• Coastal Carolina is the fourth team to score 6 or more runs in the first inning of a MCWS game since the move to Charles Schwab Field Omaha in 2011, joining Florida (7 vs. Kentucky in 2024), Vanderbilt (7 vs. Mississippi State in 2021) and Arizona (6 vs. Florida State in 2012).
• The first inning was CCU's 69th different inning of 3+ runs this season, which have come in 49 different contests. The Chants are 48-3 in those games.
• Coastal Carolina is 43-0 this year and has 60 straight games when leading by four or more runs. It's the third-longest active streak nationally behind Lamar (75) and TCU (70).
• Coastal Carolina is now 40-0 this year when leading after eight innings.
Walker Mitchell entered the day 0-for-5 in the MCWS, but drove in Coastal Carolina's first runs of the ballgame with a two-run single to right in the bottom of the first inning, recording his 12 multi-RBI game of the season.
Caden Bodine is one of five catchers to bat leadoff in the MCWS since aluminum bats were introduced in 1974, joining Texas A&M's Jackson Appel (2024), Louisville's Kyle Gibson (2014), The Citadel's Larry Hutto (1990) and Minnesota's Tom Jagiela (1977).
Caden Bodine, a finalist for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, got the Chants started in the first lining a single down the left field line. In the MCWS opener last Friday, Bodine became the first catcher to leadoff a game at the MCWS with a hit since Louisville's Kyle Gibson recorded a leadoff single against Texas on June 16, 2024.
Caden Bodine was named the 2025 NCAA Division I Catcher Rawlings Gold Glove winner on Wednesday afternoon.
• Colby Thorndkye went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a season-high five RBI against Louisville on Wednesday, becoming the first Coastal Carolina player to drive in five runs in a MCWS game.
Colby Thorndyke started his career day with a bases clearing double in the bottom of the first, recording his team-leading 18th double of the season.
Colby Thorndyke then drove in his fourth run of the game on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning, setting a Coastal Carolina MCWS single game record with four RBI.
Colby Thorndyke finished the day with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, recording his eighth three-hit game of the season and 14th multi-hit game of the year.
Colby Thorndyke is the first player to drive in 5+ runs in a game to send his team to the MCWS finals/championship game since Stanford's Edmund Muth had six RBI against Louisiana in 2000.
• Thorndyke is now 2-for-2 with two doubles, a hit-by-pitch and 7 RBI in the MCWS with the base loaded.
Colby Thorndyke's eight RBI in the 2025 MCWS are four more than any other player in the field, while his two doubles are tied with Louisville's Garret Pike and teammate Blake Barthol for the most in this year's MCWS.
Colby Thorndyke now owns 15 RBI in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, tying Little Rock's Angle Cano for the most in this year's field.
• Today marked Colby Thorndyke's fifth game this year with 3+ RBI and the 13th such game of his career. The Chanticleers are now 5-0 when Thorndkye drives in three or more runs.
• Coastal Carolina is now 4-for-8 with the bases loaded at the MCWS, while all other teams combined are 2-for-18.
Dean Mihos extended the Chanticleer lead out to 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, driving in two with his first triple of the season. Mihos became the fourth Coastal Carolina player to hit a triple in the MCWS, but the first since G.K. Young tripled against TCU back on June 25, 2016.

• Today win means Coastal Carolina has advanced to the MCWS Championship Finals for the second time in program history and will play the winner of LSU/Arkansas for a national title.
