CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina softball standout
Georgia Hood is gearing up to represent Australia at the World Softball Games, taking place August 13–17 in Chengdu, China.
The tournament features eight teams including USA, Japan, Puerto Rico, Chinese Taipei, Netherlands, Canada, China, and Australia which will be divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, with winners competing in the gold medal game.
Hood is one of 15 athletes to represent Australia in the World Softball Games. The team is led by head coach Kerrie Porter and includes four-time Olympic medalist Tanya Harding as the battery coach. Australia currently ranks 10th in the world and received a wildcard entry into the tournament, where they will face No. 2 China, No. 3 Puerto Rico, and No. 6 Canada in the group stage.
Hood will aim to build on her stellar 2025 season, in which she recorded a .421 batting average, 21 home runs, 57 RBIs, and a .547 on-base percentage to earn NFCA All-America and Sun Belt postseason honors.
