CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina scored early and often Tuesday night, defeating Campbell 13-7 at Springs Brooks Stadium to improve to 6-2 on the season.
The Chanticleers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Walker Mitchell drove in the game's first run with an RBI single before Jordan Taylor delivered a two-out, three-run home run to cap the four-run frame.
Coastal added two more runs in the second inning to extend the lead to 6-0 before Campbell responded with a four-run fourth and three-run fifth to briefly take a 7-6 advantage.
The Chanticleers answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs to regain control, highlighted by Trace Mazon's two-run double that gave Coastal a 9-7 lead.
Mazon finished with three hits and two RBIs, while Taylor went 2-for-6 with four RBIs. Blake Barthol paced the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBIs, and Dean Mihos went 3-for-6 with three runs scored as Coastal totaled 16 hits on the night.
Scott Doran (2-0) earned the win in relief, tossing 5.0 innings while allowing three runs and striking out five. Case Bosch and Colby Richardson combined for four innings, with Bosch making his first career start.
The Chanticleers will now turn their attention to this weekend's BRUCE BOLT College Classic in Houston, Texas where they'll play Texas on Friday night.
