BOONE, N.C. – No. 16 Coastal Carolina rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat Appalachian State 7-4 on Saturday afternoon and secure the Sun Belt Conference series victory.

Trailing 4-3 entering the ninth inning, the Chanticleers quickly went to work. Brice Estep put the ball in play and forced an error by the App State third baseman, allowing Jordan Taylor to score from third and tie the game at 4-4.

Two batters later, Dean Mihos delivered the decisive swing, smacking an RBI single to center field to score Estep and give Coastal Carolina its first lead of the afternoon.

The Chanticleers added insurance when Trace Mazon blasted a two-run home run to push the lead to 7-4, capping a four-run ninth inning.

It marked the second straight day Coastal produced a four-run ninth inning against the Mountaineers.

Earlier in the game, the Chanticleers trailed 4-0 through seven innings before beginning their comeback in the eighth.

Mazon got Coastal on the board with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Mazon and Blake Barthol both crossed the plate when Walker Mitchell delivered a two-run single up the middle to cut the deficit to 4-3.

With the victory, Coastal Carolina improves to 12-6 overall and 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play.

The Chanticleers and Mountaineers will conclude their three-game series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. ET on ESPN+.
