WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Freshman Jackson Winer recorded his first career hit in memorable fashion, belting a pair of home runs to lead the offense, but No. 7 Coastal Carolina fell 10-5 at Wake Forest on Tuesday night.
Wake Forest used a five-run third inning to build an early 5-0 advantage and held off the Chanticleers the rest of the way.
Coastal responded offensively behind Winer, who turned in a breakout performance at the plate. The freshman went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs, with his first long ball in the fourth inning marking his first collegiate hit.
Blake Barthol and Rex Watson each added multi-hit efforts in the contest.
With the loss, Coastal Carolina moves to 26-10 overall and remains 13-2 in Sun Belt Conference play.
The Chanticleers will return home to Springs Brooks Stadium on Friday night to open a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against Georgia State. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
