CONWAY, S.C. – No. 7 Coastal Carolina erased an early four-run deficit and used a steady offensive surge to defeat Georgia State, 15-7, on Friday night at Springs Brooks Stadium.
Georgia State jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the top of the third inning, but the Chanticleers answered right back. Coastal plated two runs in the bottom of the third and added two more in the fourth to even the score at 4-4.
The Chants kept the pressure on offensively, pushing across six runs in the fifth before continuing the momentum in the sixth inning. Freshman Jackson Winer highlighted the stretch with a two-run home run, his third in the last two games. Winer finished the night 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs.
Dean Mihos led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and three RBIs, while Walker Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.
On the mound, Luke Jones earned the win to improve to 3-1 on the season. The right-hander tossed 6.0 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out four.
With the win, Coastal Carolina improves to 27-10 overall and 14-2 in Sun Belt Conference play.
