CONWAY, S.C. – No. 14 Coastal Carolina scored early and never looked back, run-ruling South Alabama 12-2 in seven innings to earn its 32nd consecutive win against Sun Belt Conference opponents on Thursday night at Springs Brooks Stadium.
With the win, the Chanticleers improved to 22-7 overall and a perfect 10-0 in Sun Belt play.
Right-hander Luke Jones set the tone on the mound, turning in a dominant outing in the start. Jones tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while walking three and striking out five to earn the win.
Offensively, Coastal Carolina plated seven runs over the first three innings to take control of the game. The Chanticleers' lineup produced hits up and down the order, with eight of the nine starters recording at least one hit on the night.
Jordan Taylor, Blagen Pado, and Ty Barrango led the way with two hits apiece, while Barrango went 2-for-3 with a team-high three RBIs. Dean Mihos added a pair of RBIs in the win.
The Chanticleers will return to the diamond on Friday night for game two of this Sun Belt Conference weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
