CONWAY, S.C. – No. 14 Coastal Carolina saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end on Friday night, falling to South Alabama 15–2 at Springs Brooks Stadium.
The loss also marked the Chanticleers' first defeat in Sun Belt Conference play this season, as Coastal moved to 10–1 in league action.
South Alabama jumped out in front early, scoring five runs over the first two innings and never looked back.
In the fifth inning, Rex Watson provided one of Coastal's two runs launching a solo home run, his team-leading 10th of the season.
Walker Mitchell led the Chanticleers at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a double. With his performance, Mitchell extended his reached base safely streak to 30 consecutive games.
Coastal Carolina will look to bounce back on Saturday in the rubber match with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. ET on ESPN+.
