DURHAM, N.C. – Coastal Carolina rode another strong pitching performance to a 2-1 win over Wake Forest on Tuesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, securing its first multi-win season against the Demon Deacons since 2021.
With the victory, the Chanticleers improved to 24-8 overall.
Coastal set the tone on the mound early behind right-hander Jaxon Appelman, who turned in another strong outing. The right-hander tossed 3.0 hitless innings to start the game, striking out four while walking one and facing the minimum.
The Chanticleers broke through offensively in the third inning. With the game scoreless, Blagen Pado delivered an RBI single to right field to plate Rex Watson from second and give Coastal a 1-0 lead. Pado finished 1-for-3 at the plate and reached base two additional times via hit by pitch, while also swiping three bases as Coastal tied its season high with seven stolen bases on the night.
Coastal extended its lead in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice by Jordan Taylor that scored Pado, pushing the advantage to 2-0.
Wake Forest answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Coastal's pitching staff held firm the rest of the way.
Case Bosch followed Appelman with 2.1 innings of work, allowing one run on four hits while striking out four and earned the win. Connor Kane added 0.2 innings of scoreless relief, while Colby Richardson tossed 2.0 shutout innings to keep the Demon Deacons off the board. Ryan Lynch closed the game in the ninth inning, earning the save and securing the final three outs.
At the plate, Walker Mitchell and Rex Watson each recorded two hits to lead the Chanticleers' offense.
Coastal Carolina will return to Sun Belt Conference play this weekend, traveling to Jonesboro, Ark., for a three-game series against Arkansas State. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
