John A. Martin is finishing his seventh year as the Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations at Coastal Carolina University.
Martin joined the Coastal Carolina athletics staff in December 2002, after serving as the assistant sports information director at Eastern Michigan University for the previous four years. There, he was responsible for the many of the program's 21 sports and the department's web site.
Prior to that, the 39-year-old Martin had been on the staff at the University of Detroit Mercy for two-and-one-half years, serving the final year and a half as the assistant sports information director. He also was the director of basketball operations for the Oklahoma City Cavalry of the Continental Basketball Association from 1994-96 and also spent two years with that team as an intern.
A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Martin also has extensive experience in media relations, having worked as the results operations supervisor for team handball at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He was also a media relations and operations staff member at the 1993, 1994 and 1995 U.S. Olympic Festivals and international team handball events, while also working as a media relations director for a professional roller hockey team.
A native of Oklahoma City, Martin earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Oklahoma. He completed his bachelor's degree in marketing in 1992 and his master's in sports management in 1994. Martin, his wife, Lyndsey (Horton), and their sons, Cameron (6) and Alex (2), reside in Conway.
