Quinn Backus and Lena Schaeffner were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Year.
Matt Hogue is in his 12th year on the athletics staff at Coastal Carolina University, currently serving as the Associate Athletics Director for Enhanced Media.
Hogue has been the "Voice of the Chanticleers," for Coastal Carolina baseball, basketball and football, as well as serving as secretary of the Sasser Athletic Hall of Fame and assisting in baseball operations. He has also been the play-by-play talent for the Big South Conference's football and basketball television packages. He recently completed his MBA from Winthrop University.
The 37-year-old Hogue was promoted in 2004 to Associate A.D. after being the Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing for four years. He started at Coastal Carolina as the Assistant Sports Information Director, working in that capacity for two years. Hogue has also spent extensive time in freelance broadcasting, working for Fox Sports Net, Comcast Sports South and other regional networks, calling football, basketball and baseball. He also has done football play-by-play for four different high schools across the state.
A 1993 graduate of South Carolina, Hogue started in radio for four years, working for WVOC and WLXC Radio in Columbia. During that time, he hosted the USC Tailgate Show and called play-by-play for the 1993 NCAA Soccer Championship game. He then went on to write for the High School Sports Report before coming to Coastal Carolina. Hogue played basketball and golf at Clover High School, earning the basketball team's top defensive player award his senior season.
Hogue and his wife, Laura, live in Conway with their daughters Rachel and Caroline.
