HOW WE GOT HERE
No. 13 Coastal Carolina is headed back to the College World Series for the second time in school history and first since winning the National Championship in 2016.Â
The Chanticleers swept No. 4 Auburn on the road in front of back-to-back sellout crowds at Plainsman Park, winning 7-6 in 10 innings on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday.Â
The week before, Coastal Carolina dominated the NCAA Conway Regional on home turf, winning three straight games over Fairfield and East Carolina (twice) to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time since the Chanticleers’ 2016 national title run.Â
Junior Blagen Pado is hitting .471 with three home runs, seven RBIs and a 1.176 slugging per-centage across five NCAA Tournament games. He’s reached base in 11 of 21 plate appearances and leads the team in total bases (20).
Game 1 – June 13 | Coastal Carolina 7, Arizona 4
Coastal opened its Omaha run with a 14-hit barrage. Wells Sykes drove in two early; late RBIs from Blake Barthol and Blagen Pado provided the cushion. Cameron Flukey (W) and Dominick Carbone (SV) quieted Arizona over the final five frames.
Game 2 – June 15 | Coastal Carolina 6, Oregon State 2
Colby Thorndyke’s three-run double in the first inning set the tone. Jacob Morrison dazzled (7.2 IP, 7 K) to improve to 12-0, and Dean Mihos added two hits as the Chants punched their ticket to the 2-0 game.
Game 3 – June 18 | Coastal Carolina 11, Louisville 3
A six-run first inning—keyed by Walker Mitchell’s two-RBI single and Thorndyke’s bases-clearing double—sent Coastal to the finals. Riley Eikhoff earned the win and the bullpen tossed 3.2 scoreless frames.
