Latisha Luckett is in her fourth season as an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina University. Luckett's primary duties with the Chanticleer women's basketball program include recruiting, player development, assisting with the offense and serving as academic liaison.
Coastal Carolina and its offense thrived in 2017-18 as the Chanticleers finished 17-14 overall, posting the program's most wins since the 2009-10 season. The Chants averaged 65.0 ppg game that year to rank in the top half of the Sun Belt Conference, and were second in the league in both field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage. Coastal also boasted the conference's leading scorer in senior guard Jas Adams, who averaged over 18 ppg and became the program's first student-athlete to earn first-team All-Sun Belt honors.
Luckett's second season with the Chants in 2016-17 saw her play an instrumental role in helping Coastal transition to the Sun Belt Conference. In its first season in its new league, Coastal finished 13-16 overall with an 8-10 record in conference games to place eighth in the Sun Belt. Luckett's assistance with the offense led Coastal to being the Sun Belt's fifth-highest scoring team averaging 62. 8 ppg. She also coached two of the Sun Belt's top-15 scorers in Ced Gibson (13.6 ppg), who was voted a second-team All-Sun Belt selection, and Rachael Gregory (11.6 ppg).
In her first season with the Chants in 2015-16, Luckett helped Coastal to a 12-18 overall record and a 7-13 mark in Big South Conference games. Coastal had several notable wins throughout the season, including its first-ever victory against Clemson on Nov. 15, its first win against Liberty in 20 years on Feb. 20 to snap a 45-game losing streak, and a record-setting 105-15 win in the season opener against Mid-Atlantic Christian that marked the program's largest-ever margin of victory. Luckett also helped in guiding junior guard Ced Gibson to a second team All-Big South selection, and assisted in coaching an offense that finished third in the Big South averaging 63.1 points per game.
Prior to her arrival at Coastal Carolina, Luckett served as the head assistant and recruiting coordinator for two seasons (2013-15) at Claflin University. Her primary duties with the Panthers included recruiting, guard development, community engagement, social media exposure, scheduling and travel arrangements. In her two seasons, Luckett helped Claflin to consecutive 14-14 records after the Panthers had recorded just five wins the year prior to her joining the staff. The Panthers also accomplished several program-firsts with Luckett's assistance, including a win over Division I South Carolina State; multiple first team all-conference honors; conference player, and newcomer, of the week honors; a 7-0 conference start; four preseason all-conference selections; and a program-best fourth place finish in conference.
Luckett joined the Lady Panthers staff after serving as an assistant coach for Arbor Prep High School for one season (2012-13).
Prior to joining the staff at Arbor Prep, she served as the graduate assistant for Concordia University-Ann Arbor for two seasons (2009-11).
During her two-year stint with the Concordia Cardinals, Luckett was instrumental in helping the team post consecutive 20+ win seasons, make back-to-back NAIA National Tournament appearances and achieve a #3 national ranking. The Cardinals were also crowned Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) champions and were Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) co-division champs. All of the aforementioned achievements were program-firsts.
In addition to her job as a graduate assistant, Luckett organized and coached a squad of unsigned high school seniors in the Ann Arbor area with Midwest Girls Basketball Report (MGBR) for two summers. Members of her team went on to receive scholarships at notable programs such as: Eastern Michigan, Wayne State, Calvin, Siena Heights, and Concordia University. Luckett served in many positions during her five-year employment with MGBR, performing such duties as operations/event supervisor, facility setup, arranging travel for teams, website maintenance and overseeing staff.
Luckett played four summers for the semi-pro Flint Monarchs, two of which were played under the leadership of current Clafin head women's basketball coach Deont'a McChester. As a member of the Monarchs, Luckett held the position of captain and helped the team to three Women's Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) national tournament appearances. In her second season with the team, Luckett was named first team all-region.
A native of Detroit, Mich., Luckett played her collegiate basketball at Central Michigan University where she picked up the nickname "Spark Plug" for her energy on the court, in particular on the defensive end. She was the team captain during her junior and senior seasons and served as the team's representative of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Also during her junior season, she led her team in rebounds and steals, was once named MAC Player of the week as well as to the Northwestern All-Tournament. As a senior she helped lead the team to its first MAC Quarterfinal appearance since 1992.
In high school, Luckett played varsity all four seasons and was a starter for three at Detroit Country Day where she won three state championships, as well as earning All-State, All-Region and All-District honors.
Luckett earned her Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in entrepreneurship with a minor in athletic coaching from Central Michigan University in (2009), and in (2011) she earned her Master's in organizational leadership from Concordia University-Ann Arbor.
