H.B. Lockwood is in his third season as assistant women's soccer coach as he was named to the post in May 2017.
Lockwood, who will serve as Coastal's goalkeepers coach, spent the previous three seasons in a similar role at Lynn University.
In 2019, the Chanticleers went 7-9-2 overall with five of those wins coming in Sun Belt Conference play. Coastal finished in a tie for fourth overall at 5-4-1 in conference play, including posting back-to-back road conference wins over the last two matches of the regular-season slate. Lockwood worked with veteran goalkeeper Ryle Atteberry and freshman keeper Ky Hudson in 2019, guiding the pair to a 1.62 goals-against average and a .674 saves percentage on the season. The tandem combined to secure 62 saves on the season while facing 14.0 shots per contest from their opponents.
Looking to make the next step in 2018, the Chanticleers finished the season at 8-8-1 overall and third in the Sun Belt with a 7-3 conference record. The Chants posted a pair of three-match winning streaks on the season and totaled five shutouts on the season including three-straight in conference play over Louisiana (Oct. 5), ULM (Oct. 7), and Georgia Southern (Oct. 12). The Chants' duo of Rylee Atteberry and Eva Knapstein combined to finished tied for third in the Sun Belt with 21 goals allowed and were fifth in the conference in both goals-against average (1.20) and shutouts (5).
In 2017, the Chants advanced to the 2017 Sun Belt Championship tournament despite finishing in a tie for sixth overall in the regular season. The Chanticleers won 11 games (11-8-1) and went 4-5-1 in conference play. The 11 wins marked the sixth-straight double-digit win season for the Chanticleers which started in 2012. Rylee Atteberry started in goal in all 20 matches for the Chanticleers, and under Lockwood's tutelage, posted 78 saves, a 1.55 goals-against average, and a .722 saves percentage as a true freshman. She posted 11 wins and totaled 5.5 shutouts on the season while facing 221 shots on the year.
In his three years as at Lynn, while helping rebuild the program, he was able to help the defensive unit decrease their goals-against average by at least 10 goals in both the 2015 and 2016 seasons. During his time at Lynn, he was able to work with one NSCAA All-Region and three All-Sunshine State Conference performers.
Prior to his stint at Lynn, Lockwood spent one season as the assistant coach for both the men's and women's soccer programs at Lenoir-Rhyne College in 2013. Under his guidance, the women's side posted a goals-against average under 1.00 while the men's team had their first winning season since 2010.
Lockwood also served as a dual-program assistant at Anderson (S.C.) in his first-ever coaching position. Both Trojans' keepers, Katilyn Neipp and Lukas Hesse succeeded under his tutelage during the 2012 season.
Neipp posted a school-record 10 shutouts with a 1.02 GAA and .850 save percentage, earning second-team All-Southern Athletic Conference honors. Hesse was a second-team All-SAC selection, third-team All-Southeast Region, and was named the Food Lion SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
A two-year captain in 2010 and 2011 at Limestone, Lockwood went 20-10-1 with six shutouts and a 1.67 GAA as a goalkeeper.
In addition to his time with Limestone, Lockwood played in the USL PDL for three seasons, including two with the Northern Virginia Royals and one with the Vermont Voltage, where he was named to the PDL Team of the Week in June of 2011.
Along with his collegiate coaching experience, Lockwood has previously worked with Team Boca as the director of goalkeeping. He also coached with the South Carolina Olympic Development Program, at T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, with the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy, and for the Catawba Valley Youth Soccer Association.
Lockwood graduated cum laude from Limestone University in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in marketing, management and sport management. He completed his M.B.A. with a concentration in international business from Lynn in the spring of 2017.
