In Stoneman's first season on staff in 2010, he helped guide the Chants to a 10-8-2 overall record and a share of the regular-season conference crown. Under the instruction of Stoneman, the Coastal keepers combined for six clean sheets and allowed only six goals during conference play. Senior goalkeeper Amy Haggard finished the season with a 6-1-2 record, while posting a .71 goals-against average as she became the Chants' all-time leading goalkeeper in numerous statistical categories.
Stoneman spent the previous three seasons at East Carolina University, where he was the assistant coach and in charge of goalkeepers. During his time with the Pirates, the squad went 32-16-12 and 14-9-8 in Conference-USA, including winning the 2008 regular-season title and making a run to the league tournament finals. During his tenure, he coached goalkeeper Amber Campbell, who was the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year, second-team All-Southeast Region, and a first-team all-conference selection in 2008. He also worked with defender Madison Keller, who spent part of the 2009 season with the Washington Freedom of the Women's Professional Soccer League. In his time at ECU, the combined goals-against average was less than a goal a game in the 60 contests.
Prior to his time at ECU, Stoneman spent three years at Louisiana Tech as an assistant coach. While at Louisiana Tech, Stoneman helped the program achieve national rankings of third in scoring offense and 17th in shutout percentage. In addition, he was responsible for recruiting Emily Cleaveland, the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Freshman-of-the-Year in 2005, and coordinating all aspects of Louisiana Tech']s recruiting efforts.
Prior to Louisiana Tech, Stoneman served as assistant coach at Eastern New Mexico University for both the men's and women's teams. There, he actively oversaw all aspects of recruiting Eastern New Mexico's initial team.
Before his stint at Eastern New Mexico, Stoneman spent a year coaching the Dallas Texans Club Team and the Olympic Development Teams.
In 2001-02, he joined the Baylor women's soccer program and further broadened his experience under head coach Nick Cowell. At Baylor, Stoneman was in charge of scouting, video analysis, enhancing the Bears' recruiting base and practice sessions. He worked closely with and coached Mexican National Team goalkeeper Monica Housden.
Furthering his experience on the collegiate level, Stoneman served as an assistant coach at East Central University in Ada, Okla. during the 2000-01 season. The Lady Tigers reached postseason play for the first time in school history and reached the finals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament, capping off East Central's most successful season ever with 11 wins.
Stoneman became the coaching supervisor for the Falmouth Football Club in Portland, Maine, in the summer of 2001, where he supervised 12 soccer instructors, oversaw six teams, and was in charge of over 220 players. He was also the director of soccer at Camp Laurel, the nation's exclusive summer soccer camp.
Stoneman enjoyed a successful playing career at Oklahoma Christian University from 1996-98, where he led the team to two Sooner Athletic Conference titles. He also played with the Oklahoma City Slickers and OKC Spirit of the USISL. Stoneman was then selected by Dallas FC (the then-Dallas Burn) on account of his participation in the MLS Combine and subsequently took a spot on the Kansas City Wizards reserve team.
He holds impressive credentials, such as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Level II Goalkeeping Diploma, an Advanced National Diploma, a National B License from the United States Soccer Federation, a National A License from the USSF, an English F.A. Premier Badge, and a NSCAA International Diploma. He also participated in an internship for U.S. Soccer, observing training camps and sessions for the United States National Teams.
