Biography

Finished his career ranked sixth all-time in CCU history in fewest walks allowed per nine innings (2.68) … Also ranks sixth all-time in Coastal Carolina baseball history with 47 starts on the mound … Registered 17 wins and one save over 248.1 innings pitched for his career.

2018 (Senior): Made 16 starts on the mound for the Chants, tied for the team-high … Went 6-4 overall with a 4.15 ERA … Earned the complete game-shutout win with 7.0-scorless innings in CCU’s 12-0 win over South Alabama (April 8) … Was second on the team with 71 strikeouts for the year … Walked just 34 batters … Posted a 2:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the season … Pitched 86.2 innings on the season … Held the opponents to a .259 batting average for the season … Totaled five quality starts on the year …. Threw 6.1-scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven in a no-decision versus No. 18 Oklahoma (Feb. 17) … Picked up his first win of the season at Arkansas State (March 18), allowing one run on five hits and one walk, while striking out a season-high eight batters over 6.0 innings … Surrendered three runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits, two walks and six strikeouts over 5.0 innings to earn the win versus No. 30 Texas State (March 24) … Allowed four runs on seven hits and five strikeouts in 5.0 innings versus ULM (April 27) … Also picked up a Sun Belt Conference win at Little Rock (May 12), pitching 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, three walks and six strikeouts … Earned the win in the Sun Belt Championship Tournament game versus Troy (May 27), strikeout out two and allowing three runs over 5.2 innings of work … Also got the start versus No. 17 UConn (June 3) in the NCAA Conway Regional, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out one over 5.0 innings, but did not factor in the decision.

2017 (Junior): Was 5-2 in 13 appearances (12 starts) and had the fewest walks (15 in 61.2 innings) among Chanticleers that threw at least 30 innings ... Ranked sixth in the Sun Belt in fewest walks per nine innings (2.19) ... Had a solid outing versus Georgia Southern ... Left the game with a 2-0 lead after allowing leadoff single in the sixth, but would not factor in the decision in the 3-2 loss ... Scattered five hits with no runs, no walks and struck out a then career-high seven batters ... Threw 63 pitches, 48 of which were strikes ... In four of his last five starts (Georgia Southern, ULM, UTA, App State) his pitching line was 3-0, 0.43 ERA, 21.0 IP, 22 hits, one earned run, two walks and 24 strikeouts (other start not included was no decision versus Troy that CCU won) ... Struck out a then career-high six batters to get the win versus San Francisco (March 5) ... Only allowed two hits, one run and one walk in 8.0 innings ... Pitched well but did not factor in the 7-6 loss at No. 7 North Carolina allowing four hits -- two solo home runs -- and left with the game tied 2-2 through 5.1 innings ... Moved to the weekend rotation for the Georgia State series (just his third career weekend start) ... Credited with the win versus the Panthers even though he pitched just 4.0 innings (game was shortened to seven innings due to CCU's lopsided 17-0 win) ... Got the win in the ULM finale as he pitched 5.1-scoreless innings, scattering five hits and a walk with three strikeouts .... Was the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week candidate for his performance at UTA ... Pitched 5.2 innings, walked one and had a career-high nine strikeouts ... Helped CCU shutout west division leader UTA, making the first time UTA was shutout in 2017 ... While he allowed seven hits, he allowed two each in innings one and two -- both times were leadoff singles -- but worked his way out of it unscathed both times ... After allowing those four hits, he retired 15 of his next 17 before exiting the game with a two-out walk in the sixth, his only walk of the game ... Closed the season by getting win vs App State ... Worked five innings, allowed four hits, one run (solo HR) and no walks with five strikeouts ... Named to the 2016-17 Sun Belt Commissioner's List for posting at least a 3.5 GPA for the academic year ... 2016 (Sophomore): Served as Coastal's midweek starter for the 2016 season and faced the likes of UNC Wilmington, College of Charleston, North Carolina and South Carolina ... Posted a 3-4 record with a save and a .370 ERA in 16 games (10 starts) ... However, in his seven regular-season starts and start versus Longwood in the Big South Tournament, Coastal was 6-2 while Hopeck posted a 2.19 ERA and walked just five in 37.0 innings with 25 strikeouts ... Opponents only had a .223 batting average off the right-hander for the season ... Only walked 14 in 56.0 innings with 39 strikeouts ... In two starts versus UNC Wilmington, he pitched 9.0 innings, allowed five hits, one run and one walk with seven strikeouts ... Took the loss in the first of two NCAA Regional championship games versus NC State ... Also saddled with the loss in the first game versus Arizona despite pitching well in the 3-0 setback ... Lasted a career-high 6.1 innings and allowed five hits, three walks and two runs with five strikeouts ... Also pitched to one batter in the first TCU meeting ... Started in the UNC Wilmington win (March 16) ... Left with the lead after three innings, allowing three hits and one run with a walk and two strikeouts ... Only allowed four hits in 5.0 innings at College of Charleston (Mar. 22), but suffered the loss as he allowed a two-run double in the first inning ... Earned the win versus The Citadel as he pitched five-scoreless innings, scattered three hits and walked one with five strikeouts -- one of five games with five strikeouts for the season ... Only allowed four hits (including two in the first inning leading to two runs) in getting the loss at No. 6 South Carolina ... Pitched 3.1 against the Gamecocks, walked two and struck out two ... Had his best performance in CCU's win versus College of Charleston (April 13) ... Was in line for the win, leaving with a 2-1 lead after five complete ... Scattered five hits, allowing a run and a walk, with five strikeouts ... At No. 13 North Carolina, he started but pitched just 4.1 innings so he did not get the win despite allowing just six hits and two runs (one earned) with no walks and three strikeouts ... Earned his first career save in game two at Liberty despite entering with a sizable lead, winning 12-3 ... Pitched three-scoreless and hitless innings with a walk and three strikeouts ... Was dominant in getting the win at home versus UNC Wilmington (May 17) ... Retired the last 14 batters over 4.2 innings ... Only allowed two hits -- one in the first inning and one in the second -- and pitched six-scoreless innings with five strike outs ... At Big South Championship, he got the win versus Longwood as he scattered four hits to allow one run in 5.1 innings.

2015 (Freshman): Made 16 appearances with nine starts and posted a 3-2 record with a 4.91 ERA ... Struck out 33 batters in 44.0 innings with just 11 walks ... Was CCU's No. 3 starter the first eight weeks ... Ended the regular season (two games at Florida State and one at Campbell) by posting a 1-0 record and pitched 7.0-scoreless innings ... Allowed just three hits ... Had a streak of 68 consecutive batters faced without allowing a walk beginning in his first start and ending in his fifth .... CCU was 5-2 in his nine starts ... Got his first collegiate win versus NC State, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing two hits and one run with no walks and three strikeouts ... Also earned wins versus Bryant (3.0 innings with five strikeouts) and at Campbell in the regular-season finale (4.0 innings in relief with one hit, no runs and no walks).

High School: Named first-team 4A North Region as a utility player and second team as a pitcher ... Tabbed the all-Conference 21 Player of the Year ... First-team all-Conference 21 as both a pitcher and utility player ... Selected to play in the VHSCA All-Star game ... Set Heritage career records for innings pitched, 192 strikeouts, complete games and shutouts ... Got the win on the mound in over half of the school's victories over three years ... Hit .424 with five doubles and a .570 on-base percentage as a senior ... Heritage's three-time team MVP ... Earned second-team all-district honors as a pitcher as a junior and sophomore, but he also was a first-team all-Dulles District pick as a utility player and second team pick as a pitcher in 2012 ...
