Box Score Women's Soccer Falls to College of Charleston, 2-0

CONWAY, S.C.— The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team lost to the College of Charleston Wednesday night at the CCU Soccer Stadium. The Lady Chanticleers struggled during the game with the task of containing the quick Claire Wigfall of the opposing Cougars.

The first goal of the match came in the 39th minute of play when the Chanticleer’s
(0-7-1) goalkeeper Candice Doten came out of the 18-yard box and attempted a sliding tackle of the Cougar’s (3-4-1) forward Lindsey Dorio. She escaped the challenged and played a ball in front of the empty net, where it was received by Jaime Stewart, who then found Becca Eddy. Eddy tallied her third goal of the season as she shot it past the Chanticleer defense and into the open net.

The Lady Chants were lifted defensively by the substitution of Pam Mulcahy, whose defensive pressure enabled Coastal to gain more possession of the ball as they looked to equalize the match. But Claire Wigfall notched the second goal of the match for the College of Charleston in the 69th minute on a breakaway, which was fed by Tessa Morrell.

Although the Lady Chants were unable to win that illusive first game of the season, they did put up a battle for the ninety-minute match. The ladies next match is Saturday night against Big South newcomer Birmingham Southern at 6:00pm.
