CLEMSON, SC — The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track team opened up the 2003-04 season at the Clemson Opener this weekend, Dec. 5-6. Coastal's top finishers were freshman Chasity Johnson (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester), who was part of a four-way tie in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters, and senior Marilyn Testa (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald), with a 3.50 meter pole vault to tie for fifth place overall.
On day one, junior Brittany Reid (McKinney, Texas/Coffeyville J.C.) was Coastal's top thrower, tossing for 14.36 meters. In the long jump, Johnson was the top Lady Chant, placing fourth in Flight 2 with a distance of 5.40 meters.
Johnson also posted a top 10 finish on the second day of the meet in the triple jump, placing 10th with 11.73 meters. In the shot put, freshman Brittany Nordin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Reading) was Coastal's top finisher with a throw of 12.28 meters for 15th place. Reid finished three spots behind her, throwing for 11.83 meters. Junior Michelle Mentzer (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle Antrim) also finished in the top 10 in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.80, good for 10th place overall. Coastal's 4x400-meter relay squad also finished 10th, running in 4:05.99.
The Lady Chants are in action next after the new year, traveling again to Clemson for the Clemson Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 24, beginning at 10 a.m.
