CHAPEL HILL, NC — North Carolina (21-9, 3-3 ACC) defeated Coastal Carolina (22-7) 6-1 on Wednesday evening at Boshamer Stadium. Jeremy Cleveland drove in all six Carolina runs and homered twice while UNC pitcher Garry Bakker started the staff day and gave up just one hit and no runs in four innings, picking up his third victory of the season.

The Tar Heels' offense put three runs on the board in the first against Chanticleers' starter Justin Sturge to hand him his first defeat of the season.

The Tar Heels jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Greg Mangum walked to lead off the inning and Chad Prosser followed with a single to extend his career-high hitting streak to 14 games. With one out, Cleveland hit a three-run home run to right field, his sixth homer of the season.

Cleveland helped extend the Tar Heels' lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI triple scoring Mangum who led off the inning with a single.

Coastal Carolina got on the board with a run in the top of the sixth inning. Brett Grandstrand walked to lead off the inning and came around to score on a two-out single up the middle by Mike Costanzo.

Cleveland struck again in the bottom of the seventh with his seventh home run of the season. Sean Farrell was hit by a pitch with two outs and Cleveland followed with his second homer of the game, giving him six RBIs on the evening.

Carolina hosts the #14 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for a three-game series this weekend. The first pitch for Friday's game will be thrown at 7 p.m. Saturday's game will be televised on Fox Sports South with a starting time of approximately 1:06 pm. Sunday's series finale will begin at 1:30 p.m.
