CONWAY, SC —Former Chanticleer Baseball Standout Rett Johnson is one step away from the Major Leagues after recently being promoted to Tacoma Rainiers, Class AAA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
Johnson, who completed his Coastal Carolina career in 2000, wasted little time proving he deserved the promotion by tossing a three-hitter in his debut, June 20, leading Tacoma to a 7-1 Pacific Coast League win over the Memphis Redbirds. The Aynor, S.C. righthander allowed no earned runs and struck out five in seven strong innings.
Johnson was drafted in the 8th Round by the Mariners in the 2000 Major League Draft and still holds the single-season school records for most innings pitched (133.1) and strikeouts (151). He won 24 games in his Chanticleer career.
