Women's Soccer Shuts Out South Carolina State, 11-0

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team rolled to another victory Sunday as it defeated South Carolina State, 11-0, with eight different members of the squad netting goals. The Lady Chants, who have now won four in a row, move to 4-1 with the win, and the loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-3.

In a matchup that ended in a 9-0 result last season, Coastal dominated the ball for the majority of the 90 minutes, trying for 47 shots, 29 of those on goal. The Bulldogs managed only three shots, all of which ended in saves.

The first half was a Chants scoring frenzy, as freshman Laura Weiler connected with the back of the net only 1:25 into the match, then assisted on Coastal’s next goal 11 minutes later, netted by sophomore Bobbie Parsons. The duo combined again to put the score at 3-0 only 13 seconds later, with Weiler recording her fourth goal of the season. Parsons then contributed once again two minutes later, putting the Lady Chants up 4-0.

Junior Erin Blevins netted her first goal of the season at the 26-minute mark, assisted by sophomore defender Alissa Wulf. Junior Jennifer Maxwell then recorded a goal at the 37-minute mark to send Coastal into halftime with a 6-0 advantage.

Maxwell scored again 59 minutes into the match, courtesy of an assist from Wulf, and freshman Shauna Wolf was assisted by freshman Simone Borucinski two minutes later, putting the Lady Chants up 8-0.

Sophomore Kristina Fisher bumped the score to 9-0 two minutes after Wolf’s goal, and sophomore Rachel Devine contributed at the 74-minute mark off an assist from freshman Leah Hackmann. Seniors Laura DiRenzo and Tiffany Turner then combined for Coastal’s final goal at the 89-minute mark.

Freshman goalkeeper Jaclyn Stoll started for the Lady Chants, but did not face any shots on goal in the first half. Senior Candice Doten replaced her going into the second half, picking up two saves, and junior Beth Wilkerson played in the net for the final 23 minutes of the match, grabbing one save. South Carolina State keeper Nicolle Bentancourt played for 90 minutes and tallied 18 saves.

The Lady Chants now face a nine-game stint away from home, beginning with a match at Wofford on Wednesday September 10 at 7 p.m.
