The Coastal Carolina University men's cross country team finished in second place in the open division of the North Carolina Collegiate Cross Country Championships, hosted by East Carolina University Oct. 16. The 8,000-meter run was contested on the course that will host the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships.

Coastal had 39 team points, finishing behind Liberty University's 29 points. Norfolk State finished in third with 66 points, followed by Spartanburg Methodist (116) and Francis Marion (125).

Senior Terah Kipchiris (Kitale, Kenya/Saboti Secondary) finished in second place in the individual standings, just behind freshman sensation Josh McDougal of Liberty. Kipchiris had a time of 24:03.15. Sophomore Doug Currie (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia Northern) also finished in the top-10, placing seventh with a time of 25:32.78. Freshman Blair Paul (Queenston, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill) finished in 18th place with a time of 26:23.71, while junior Mark Heidecker (Waterford, Pa./Cathedral Prep) placed 21st with a time of 26:38.78. Junior Randy Johnson (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) rounded out the scoring by finishing in 24th place with a time of 26:55.94.

Coastal will prepare for the Big South Conference Championships Saturday, Oct. 30, in Rock Hill, S.C.
