Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at Landfall Tradition More Information:
WILMINGTON, NC – The Coastal Carolina men’s golf squad placed seventh at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, NC, Oct. 29-31. The tournament is being contested at the Country Club of Landfall’s Jack Nicklaus Course (Par 72 - 6,948 yards).
Michigan State shot a final round 285 to hold off Duke by four shots with a three-round total of 851. Coastal shot 291 in the final round to finish at 870, one shot behind Ohio State in sixth and two behind Xavier in fifth.
Individually, Duke had two of the top three, as Ryan Blaum took home medalist honors with an eight-under 208, while the Blue Devils’ Nathan Smith tied with Will Shambley of UNC Wilmington for second at seven-under 209.
Coastal was led by Dustin Johnson, who fired a career-best six-under 210 to tie for fourth. Tyler McGhie tied for 21st at one-over 217, while Moises Cobo shot 223 to tie for 35th. Zack Byrd tied for 39th at 224, while Jeremy Kirkland finished at 226, good for a tie for 44th.
The Chanticleers have wrapped up their 2004 fall schedule and will next be in action at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate, Sun.-Tue., Feb. 20-22. The tournament is going to be contested at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
