Johnson Earns Weekly Indoor Track and Field Honors

Coastal Carolina’s Chasity Johnson (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) had an outstanding individual performance in Coastal’s first indoor meet of the season last week at the Clemson Indoor Open. And Johnson was awarded today, December 9, as the Big South’s Choice Hotels Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week the conference office announced.
Johnson, a sophomore, competed in four events on the Friday afternoon, Dec. 9, and captured first place in both the long jump (5.98m/19’07.50") and the triple jump (12.87m/42’02.75") while placing fourth in the 200 meter dash (25.30). She was also part of the 4x400 meter relay team that captured sixth place (4:06.34). The triple jump was a new school record and broke the career mark she set last season. The jump also was an NCAA Qualifying score.
The women’s track and field team will next compete on January 21, 2005 when it travels to Johnson City, Tenn., to compete in the Niswonger Invitational.
