Outdoor Track Ends Season at NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas - Coastal Carolina outdoor track and field's three NCAA national qualifiers ended their NCAA seasons Thursday, June 10, at the national championships in Austin, Texas. Amber Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) will now compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, July 9-18, in Sacramento, Calif.

Campbell, a five-time All-American, fouled all three of her hammer throw attempts in the preliminary round of the NCAA meet. Campbell's throw of 67.21 meters (220'6") at the NCAA East Regionals won her the title, setting a new regional record and tying the collegiate record set in 2002.

Sophomore Mark Johnson (North Myrtle Beach, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) also failed to advance to the finals of the pole vault, finishing 20th by clearing 5.15 meters (16'10.75"). He earned his ticket to nationals by winning the regional championship with a school, conference, and regional record-setting jump of 5.26 meters (17'3").

Freshman Thomas Jordan (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) placed 24th in the javelin at the national meet with a throw of 61.59 meters (202'0.5"). He earned an at-large bid to nationals with his winning throw of 70.87 meters (232'6") at the Big South Conference Championships, which was good for 16th on the national performance list at the end of the season.

Campbell will throw in the preliminaries of the Olympic trials Monday, July 12, at 2:30 p.m., at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif.
