Women's Tennis Concludes Landfall/UNCW Invitational

The Coastal Carolina University men's and women's tennis teams concluded the Landfall/UNCW Invitational Sept. 12, as junior Florentin Meynie (Nanterre, France/Universite Paris X) and freshman David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) competed in the men's draw and seniors Marie Matrka (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) and Virginie Dinh (Maisons Albert, France/Sophia) played in the women’s draw.
After Matrka lost the first match of the tournament, she won the next two matches to win the consolation Navy Bracket. She defeated Sallie Kiser of UNCW 6-0, 6-1 and Lucia Henkle of Mount Olive 6-1, 6-0. Dinh defeated Alex Smith of East Carolina 6-1, 6-0 in the consolation of the Teal Bracket. The duo advanced to the final of the doubles draw. They defeated Kristen Mears and Molly Molony of UNCW 8-1 in the semifinals, but fell to Erin Stahl Johanson and Julia Roach of N.C. State 8-4 in the finals.
The Coastal women will next compete in the DVC Invitational Sept. 17-18 in Wilmington, N.C., while the men will travel to Charleston, S.C., to compete in the Charleston Southern Invitational Sept. 24-25.
