Men's Basketball Has Solid Scrimmage

The Coastal Carolina men’s basketball squad held a scrimmage at Kimbel Arena, Oct. 28, with the Teal team defeating the Black team, 61-50. Playing 16 minute halves, the Teal team seized control of the game early, opening the game on a 7-2 run. The Black team fought back to trail 11-9, but could never get the lead, as the Teal squad scored 14 unanswered points to lead 25-9 with 8:18 to go in the first half. The Teal continued to hold a decisive lead, heading into the halftime lockerroom with a 37-23 lead. The Black team chipped away at the lead in the second half, cutting it to as few as four at 52-48 with 3:25 to go on the clock. But again, the Teal team had an answer, finishing the game on a 9-2 run. The Teal team shot 53.7 percent (22-for-41) for the game, including 68.4 percent (13-for-19) in the first half, while the Black team was limited to just 42.2 percent for the game (19-for-45). The Teal squad out rebounded the Black, 27-21 in the game. The Teal was led by junior Moses Sonko (East Greenwich, R.I./Classical) who scored a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Jack Leasure (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) added 18 points, while freshman Logan Johnson (Knoxville, Tenn./South Doyle) added nine points and a game-best six assists. The Black squad was paced by junior Pele Paelay (Derwood, Md./Magruder), who scored 19 points. Freshman Joseph Harris (Lejeune, N.C./Lejeune) chipped in nine points, three rebounds and two steals. The Chanticleers will host Anderson College in exhibition play, Fri., Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
