Johnson Qualifies for the NCAA Indoor National Championships

CONWAY, S.C.- Coastal Carolina’s women’s track and field’s Chasity Johnson (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) has qualifed for the NCAA Division I Indoor track and field championships the NCAA announced Mar. 8 in the triple jump. The 2005 NCAA Women’s Championships will take place Friday and Saturday, Mar. 12-13, on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
Johnson enters the meet ranked ninth in the country in the triple jump. Her best mark of 13.17m/43’2.50", which she jumped at the Big South Indoor Championships, is only 0.73 meters behind the current NCAA leader Stanford’s Erica McCain.
This past season, Johnson set the new school and conference records and helped the Lady Chanticleers to a second place finish at the Big South Indoor Championships with first place finishes in the triple jump, long jump and 200m.
The women’s triple jump finals of the 2005 championships will take place at 5:10 p.m., this Saturday, Mar. 12.
