This is the first entry in the Coastal Carolina National Championship diary done by members of CCU's men's golf team at the 2005 NCAA Championships in Baltimore, Md.
We flew in late Friday night and came straight to the hotel to catch up on some rest. Saturday morning we got up and went to downtown Baltimore to tour the city until the Baltimore Orioles game against the Tigers. We got to see the 20 year old Hayden Penn make his major league debut with the Orioles. Though we saw some great baseball nothing matches the games we catch at Watson Stadium. On that note we would like to send our best to our baseball team when they go to Tempe.
Sunday morning we got up and went to a course just north of Baltimore to practice and play. We got used to the bent grass fairways and rough and the different terrain in this area. We all played pretty well and enjoyed ourselves.
We had our first practice round today the golf course and facilities were amazing. The course is a Par 70 playing over 7200 yards with 5 par 4’s over 460 yards so we will definitely be using the long irons all week. The course is championship proven by hosting the 2002 US Senior Open. They have lengthened the course about 200 yards since then. So it will be a true test of golf and we look forward to it. Tomorrow we have an early practice round so we will have a good bit of time to practice after the round. Our main objective coming into this tournament is to be as prepared and ready as possible for the first round knowing the importance of getting off to a good start to keep us in contention all week.
