Women's Tennis Matrka Named First-Team Academic All-District

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University senior women's tennis player Marie Matrka (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Women's At Large First Team, the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) announced recently.
Matrka, a biology major with a grade point average of 3.99 was named the Big South Conferences Women's Tennis Player of the Year after going 16-4 in singles play and 14-3 in doubles action during the regular season. The mark included a 7-0 singles record in the Big South. Matrka earned First Team All-Big South honors this past season in both singles and doubles, making her a seven-time All-Big South honoree.
She finished her career third all-time at Coastal in singles wins (91) and doubles victories (91). Matrka also was the Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Last season, Matrka was named a Third-Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American program. The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve with a minimum grade point average of 3.20. Team members are selected by a vote of members of College Sports Information Directors of America within the district.
