Women's Basketball Announces 2005-06 Schedule The Coastal Carolina University women‘s basketball program and head coach Alan LeForce have announced the 2005-06 schedule today (Aug. 25) which includes 14 games at CCU’s Kimbel Arena and six straight home games in the Myrtle Beach area.
The Lady Chanticleers open the regular season at Campbell Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. Coastal opens its home schedule Friday, Nov. 25, against Southern Virginia at 7 p.m. After a road game at UNC Wilmington, the Lady Chants host Furman Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. Coastal then goes to 2005 NCAA Elite Eight participant North Carolina Saturday, Dec. 17.
The annual Carolinas Women’s Challenge is next on the schedule. Coastal faces the College of Charleston for the second straight year Tuesday, Dec. 20 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. This game starts a streak of six consecutive games in the Myrtle Beach area, including a New Year’s Eve game against UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m and games on back-to-back nights against Savannah State Jan. 2 and Coker Jan. 3.
The Lady Chants open the Big South schedule Saturday, Jan. 14, at Radford at 3 p.m. The Big South home opener is Saturday, Jan. 21 against UNC Asheville at 2 p.m. The UNC Asheville game and the High Point game a week later are doubleheader affairs with the men‘s team.
Coastal hosts 2005 NCAA regional semifinalist Liberty Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. Coastal has two separate three-game road trips in February and ends the regular season at home Saturday, March 4 against Charleston Southern at 5 p.m.
The Big South Tournament will be the same format as last year, with the quarterfinal matchups at home sites and the semifinals and championship game at the home of the regular-season champion. The tournament gets underway Tuesday, March 7.
"Our schedule this year is competitive," LeForce said. "We have some very good opponents out of conference. North Carolina could end up as the preseason number one team in the country and we play quality teams from the Southern, Atlantic Sun and the Colonial. We‘ve got a lot of home games, especially late in the non-conference schedule. That should be a benefit. Hopefully, we can win some of those games to give us confidence heading into the Big South."
Coastal returns four starters from last year’s squad, including All-Big South Second Team member Kim Turner (West Memphis, Ark./Hiwassee C.C.) and fifth-year senior Amber Rose (Bloomington Springs, Tenn./Upperman).
