Volleyball shocked by South Carolina State, 3-2

ORANGEBURG, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina Volleyball team fell in five games to South Carolina State Tuesday, October 10, 30-22, 28-30, 26-30, 30-28, 14-16. The Lady Chanticleers fall to 5-16 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 11-9.
Freshman Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) led the Lady Chanticleer offense with 17 kills on the night. Senior Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) also had a big night recording 15 kills. Coastal had two players have double digits in digs, libero Megan Pollard (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) who had 21 digs and Nakia Thompson (Lexington, S.C./Lexington) had 11 digs. Thompson also recorded nine kills on the night. Freshman setter Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) had another 50-assist performance, recording 54 assists in the match.
South Carolina State was led by Vicky Jeter who had a double-double in the match, tallying 16 kills and 12 digs. The Bulldogs also had two other players record double-digit kills on the night, Monique Walker who blasted 14 kills and Lilliana Gootinag who put down 11. Laura Waters-Brown scooped up 16 balls for South Carolina State.
As a team, Coastal hit for .071 in the match, hitting in the negatives during game two and three. They recorded eight total blocks. South Carolina State ended the night hitting .060 on 58 kills and recorded 10 total blocks.
South Carolina State heads to the MEAC Round Robin on Thursday, October 12. Coastal Carolina returns to Big South Conference play on Friday, October 13 when they head to Asheville, N.C. to take on the Lady Bulldogs of UNC Asheville. That match is set for 6 p.m. The Lady Chanticleers then travel to Birmingham-Southern for another conference match-up on Sunday, October 14 at 2 p.m.
