LYNCHBURG, VA-The Coastal Carolina University Volleyball team fell to Liberty Friday, October 7, 30-20, 30-27, 23-30, 30-24. Three Lady Chanticleers had double digits in kills on the night.  Ashley Scheible (Westerville, Ohio/North) and Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) led the offense with 12 kills, Nakia Thompson (Lexington, S.C./Lexington) had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills) also blasted 10 kills.

In game one, Liberty was lead by Alysson Sanders who served for eight points giving the Lady Flames a chance to pull ahead of Coastal early on.  Sanders posted two of her match-high and career-high four aces. Liberty went on to win the game 30-20 taking advantage of nine Coastal errors and a low hitting percentage.  Freshman Megan Pollard (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) tallied 11 of her match-high 29 digs during the game.  The Lady Chants only hit for .058. Nyhof, Scheible and Rinne led the way for the offense with three kills each.  The Lady Flames also had three players with three kills, Mary Alice Pike, Kallie Corbin and Kendall Nichols.  Liberty hit for .262.

Liberty jumped out to an early 8-4 lead in game two before Coastal shifted gears.  Coastal took advantage of a Liberty error to change the pace of the game.  Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) took the ball to serve three points, getting two kills from Rinne to take the lead 22-24.  After a Liberty timeout, the two teams matched each other point-for-point until Lara Bartolomeo served for four consecutive points putting them at 27-25.  Nichols then had two back-to-back kills helping Liberty to get the win 30-27 on a block by Corbin and Autum Black. Senior Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy), Thompson, Rinne and Nyhof each had three kills.  Liberty was led by Stephanie Stow and Pike who both put four balls down.  Despite 11 Liberty errors and a .107 hitting percentage to Coastal's .125 on eight errors, Coastal couldn't rally back for the win.

After the intermission, Coastal came out firing, hitting a match-high .341 and winning game three, 30-23.  Coastal led by just two points at 17-15 before Thompson had three-straight kills helping the Lady Chants to score four unanswered points.  Scheible led the way for the Lady Chants in the win with five kills.  Liberty got a strong effort from Nichols who put five balls down but only hit for .125 in the game. 

Coastal came out in game four with the early lead at 21-16 before Liberty's Ashley Webber stepped up the pace of the game.  Webber posted two kills, a service ace, an assist and three block assists in Liberty's match ending 14-3 run.  Coastal only hit for .093 and was led by Nyhof and Obert who had three kills apiece.  Pike had five kills for Liberty who hit for .188.

The Lady Flames were led by Pike who had 13 kills and 12 digs, three aces and a career-high seven block assists.  Nichols also had 13 kills to go along with her 15 digs.  Coastal's Pollard had a career-high night with her 29 dig performance. 

The loss puts Coastal at 1-3 in the Big South Conference and a 5-14 overall record.  Liberty improves to 4-11 overall and 2-2 in the Big South.

Liberty next hosts Charleston Southern Saturday at 1 while Coastal travels to Radford, Va. to try to pick up its second Big South win against Radford.  The match is set for 2 p.m.
