ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Junior Alisha Dill's (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) career high 27 points and six rebounds was not enough as Coastal Carolina's women's basketball team was defeated by UNC Asheville 64-57, Saturday, Feb. 18. The Lady Chants are now 14-8 overall and 4-6 in the Big South Conference, while UNC Asheville advanced to 15-8 and 6-4 in League play.

UNC struck first with a 4-0 lead until Amber Rose (Bloomington Springs, Tenn./Upperman) got on the board at 18:13.  UNC Asheville led the game 12-10 until a lay-up by Kim Turner (West Memphis, Ark./West Memphis (Hiwassee C.C.) followed by a three-point shot from Dill gave the Lady Chants their first lead, 13-12. Asheville continued to battle back and controlled the first half 24-19 until another successful three-point shot by Dill followed by a rebound and two-point shot tied the game at 24. The Bulldogs jumped ahead of CCU before halftime for the 26-25 lead.

In the second half, a three-point shot by Demaria Young (Memphis, Tenn./Raleigh Egypt (Walters State C.C.), after almost two minutes without a score, gave the Lady Chants the 28-26 lead. UNC Asheville answered by tying the game after a two-pointer from Katie Baldwin. The Bulldogs then went on an 11-point run to lead 37-28. CCU tried to close in with a two foul shots by Yates, but the Bulldogs responded for the 39-29 lead. UNC Asheville scored six straight points until a jumper from Rose and a two quick points from Dill cut it to 45-36.

At a 48-38 Coastal deficit, two foul shots by Yates brought the Lady Chants closer, followed by a foul shot and three-point shot by Dill. The Lady Chants were down 48-44, but UNC continued to control the game with a quick 55-47 lead. Young hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 55-51 and a layup from Turner brought it to within three (58-55) with 58 seconds left, but a big three-point play by Kristal Hood put the Bulldogs back up six.  Yates hit a layup with 26 seconds left, but Ashton Barton made both free throws to give UNCA the win.

Dill was 10-of-18 from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point range. Rose added eight points and six rebounds.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Kristal Hood with 16 points and nine rebounds. Amanda Elder added 11 points for Asheville.

UNC Asheville shot 46.9 percent from the field while the Lady Chants were at 36.7 percent. The Lady Chants were 7-of-14 from three-point range as a team, but were outrebounded by the Bulldogs 42-33.

Coastal will now travel to Birmingham-Southern for an 8 p.m., game Wednesday, Feb. 22.
