CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team (10-3, 2-1 Big South) won its second consecutive conference match against Liberty (0-5, 0-2) 5-2 on Saturday, March 11. For CCU it was the sixth consecutive match its has won.

The number one singles match saw sophomore David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) down senior Priit Pihl 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 while CCU junior Elliott Quibell (Derby, England/Cheam (Colorado)) defeated sophomore Jarda Trojan in the second singles match 6-2, 6-1. Junior Simon Taylor (Hampshire, England/Queen's Mary College) won the third singles match over senior Carls Cardona 6-0, 7-6 while the fourth singles match was won by Coastal's junior Andy Caress (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) 6-3, 6-3 over senior Braen Anerios.

Junior Richard Redding (Winscombe, England/Queen Elizabeth's Hospital) was defeated by freshman Joseph Withers 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 in the fifth singles match. Junior Ryan Weisband (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) dropped the sixth and final singles match 6-3, 7-5 to sophomore Sebestian Pena.

The Chanticleers took the doubles point by defeating all three Liberty doubles teams. At the first seed, the Chants Quibell/Redding defeated Pihl/Trojan 8-5. In the second doubles seeding Caress/Taylor defeated Pena/Withers, 9-7. The third doubles seed also was for Coastal as Mellis/Weisband downed Aneiros/Cardona 8-6.

"We were down in all the doubles matches and our team spirit and fight carried us to the point," head coach Chris Powers commented. "This win demonstrates that we are heading in the right direction, but tomorrow we have a tough match against a solid James Madson program."

The Chants host non-conference opponent James Madison in the final match of the weekend on March 12 at 12 p.m.
