Men's Golf Releases 2006-07 Schedule

Chanticleers to host 13 other NCAA teams at annual Hackler Invitational
CONWAY, SC – The Coastal Carolina University men’s golf team has released its 2006-07 schedule, head coach Allen Terrell announced today. The schedule features 12 tournaments leading up to the annual Big South Conference Golf Championship, NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships.
"Thanks to the hard work of our past and current players, we have been able to strengthen our schedule every year," Terrell commented. "This coming year’s schedule is the strongest in school history. We’ve always made an effort to play a schedule which will prepare our team for the post season but at the same time enable our student athletes to miss the least amount of class possible. We are fortunate to have met all of our scheduling goals for the 2006-2007 season."
The season opens across the Atlantic Ocean, as the Chanticleers will head to legendary St. Andrews Golf Club for the International Collegiate, Sept. 1-2. Following that, CCU will play in four more Fall team events, including the Inverness Intercollegiate, Duke Golf Classic and Corde Valle Collegiate. Coastal also has earned its second straight invitation to the Callaway Match Play (previously the Hooters Match Play), Nov. 6-7, by finishing 16th at the 2006 NCAA Championships. This year, the event will be contested at Colonial Country Club in Texas and again featuring the top teams from last year’s NCAA Championships. Senior All-American Dustin Johnson will conclude the fall with his individual competition at the Western Refining All-American Classic in El Paso, Texas, Nov. 21-22.
The spring kicks off with the Gator Invitational, Feb. 10-11, and again includes some of the top events in the country. CCU returns to the Mercedes Benz Collegiate and Ashworth Invitational before hosting the nationally-renowed General Hackler Invitational, Mar. 11-12, at TPC of Myrtle Beach. This year’s field at the Hackler Invitational will include 18 teams, seven of which competed in the NCAA Championships and another seven that played in the NCAA Regionals. The teams include such national powers as Duke, Lamar, Pepperdine, defending champion East Tennessee State, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Southern California.

After hosting the Hackler, the Chants will head to Mt. Pleasant, S.C. to play in the Hootie/Bulls Bay Invitational and then head to Georgia to defend their title at the Administaff/Augusta State Invitational, Mar. 30-Apr. 1. CCU will then defend another title, this one at the Big South Conference Championship, again played at The Patriot Golf Club in Greenwood, S.C., Apr. 16-18, with the league’ s automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals on the line. This year’s NCAA Regionals will be held at the Golf Club of Georgia in Atlanta (East), Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. (Central) and ASU’s Karsten Golf Course in Tempe Ariz. (West), May 17-19. The NCAA Championships will be played at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club’s Gold Course in Williamsburg, Va., May 30-June 2.
The Chants return all five starters from last year’s team that finished in 16th at the NCAA Championships and set numerous school team and individual records.
