Women's Tennis Chosen Second in Preseason Poll

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina's women's tennis team has been chosen second in the Big South Conference's annual preseason poll, as voted by the league's head women's tennis coaches and sports information directors.
The Eagles from Winthrop were a unanimous first-place pick as they received 16 votes and 128 points. The Lady Chanticleers received 107 points in the voting finishing ahead of High Point who received 85 points and Charleston Southern with 76 points. Birmingham Southern was picked fifth with 72 points, followed by Liberty (56), Radford (32) and UNC Asheville (20).
"It is no surprise that the Winthrop team was picked first," Head Coach Jody Davis said. "As past history indicates, they have the strongest team and that is exactly where they deserve to be considered. The object is not to be on top at the beginning of the season but to be on top at the end. I feel that we have a strong team this year, and just like the rest of the conference we will do our best to finish strong."
Coastal finished last season with a 22-4 overall record falling in the conference finals to top-seeded Winthrop and will return five players including three seniors. The Lady Chanticleers will kick off their season against Limestone on Friday, Feb. 9 in Conway, S.C. and will open up conference play on Thursday, Mar. 8 when they host UNC Asheville at 1 p.m.
