Lady Chanticleers Have Strong Finish in Second Day at UNC Fast Times Sistrunk sets another 60 meter hurdles school record

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The Lady Chanticleers finished the second day at the UNC Fast Times Indoor meet with several top 10 finishers, including senior Chasity Johnson (N. Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) who won the long jump with her leap of 19'4 1/4". Johnson also won the triple jump on the first day of the meet and finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.22. Ikeiylah Brown (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head) finished sixth in 25.49 and Amber White (Ladson, S.C./Stratford) finished ninth in 25.61, also placing for Coastal was Desiree Leach (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) whose 26.83 earned her 23rd place.
White and Leach also place in the 400 meter dash, White earning second place in 56.85 and Leach seventh with a time of 59.19. Junior LeAuna Sistrunk (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mason (University of Alabama)) had another record breaking night with her second place finish in the 60 meter hurdles setting a new school record of 8.59. Jessica Houston (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) finished 10th in 9.14 and Elisha Tegeder (Barnegart, N.J./Southern) earned 15th place with her time of 9.59.
In the 60 meter dash, Brown finished tenth in 7.87, while Sistrunk earned 12th place in 7.93 and Courtney Lemon (Hopkins, S.C./Dreher) finished 13th in 7.96. Two Lady Chants placed in the 800 meters in their first meet of the indoor season, Kelli-Jo White (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) was 13th with a time of 2:26.85 and Peggy Busbee (Aiken,S.C./South Aiken) picked up 21st in 2:29.36. Freshman Theresa Schamberger (Kendalville, Ind./East Noble) earned 11th place in the Mile with a time of 5:15.77 and Aubrey Bergquist (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) was 12th with her time of 5:16.13.
Four other Lady Chants had a good day in the field events, senior Tamara Bryant (Pasadena, Calif./La Salle (Moorpark CC)) finished fourth in the shot put with her hurl of 43' 2 1/4", Houston finished seventh in the high jump clearing 5'4 1/4" and pole vaulters Laura Flath (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) and Marcie Veitch (Ontario, Canada/St. Anne) placed ninth (10'11 3/4") and 13th (10'6"), respectively.
The Lady Chants will return to Chapel Hill next weekend to partake in the North Carolina Invitational.
